Albania. Been there!

Whenever I am asking people what is the first word that comes to their mind when I say "Albania", they say "war" "mafia" "kosovo" and so on. And the truth is that there is not so much information about Albania. So... I went there to see. Well, I wanted to swim in the sea, and Albania seemed the most interesting destination. We arrived to Durres at 5 in the morning. The city looked impressive, though there was noone on the street. We were walking with only one purpouse: to see the sea =) and...: Below the hotel that we stayed at. 25 euro for a room is rather a decent price. Check out the view that we had from our balcony! In general the country surprised me. Palm trees, clean streets, Mercedes cars everywhere, lots of new buildings (majority of them are hotels)... the country is very modern and definatelly developing. Even the fact, that it was hard to communicate in English, did not disturb me. People are very nice and helpful, and that somehow made it up for me. And Albania has really beautiful mountains and... the sea :-) I can bet it will be soon a very popular tourist destination. And then I will say "Albania? I've been there already" =)

I visited for the first time in 2003. I spent my honeymoon in Durres. My husband and mother are from Albania. In 2003, they seemed to be getting back on their feet. By the time I spent 3 months there in 2005, I saw tremendous progress in just two years. I can't wait to go back. We're going in November.
